Closed: Zimbabwe - Trade Unionist under threat

Gertrude Hambira

Getrude Hambira, secretary general of the General Agricultural and Plantation Workers Union of Zimbabwe (GAPWUZ), had to flee Zimbabwe after she was the target of persecution by state officials.

Between November 2009 and February 2010, her home was attacked by unidentified armed men, her family intimidated and her offices raided.

This action has closed.

Over 500 of you that wrote to the Zimbabwean authorities calling on them to protect Gertrude Hambira and all members of the General Agricultural and Plantation Workers Union of Zimbabwe (GAPWUZ) as they carry out their important human rights work. Both Gertrude and the Union thank you for your solidarity.

We will continue to fight for union rights in Zimbabwe and will keep you updated on any progress.
