UN figures suggest that 70,000 men, women and children have been killed since the crackdown on peaceful protests first began in Syria.

Stop the killing – take action now

Since those early protests, barely a week has gone by when the situation in the country has not made the headlines. Stories of battles between opposition and government forces continue to fill our papers, and the endlessly rising death toll has serves as a constant reminder that what started as a peaceful cry for freedom has descended into an internal armed conflict - with devastating results.

The impact of the fighting, as ever, is being most brutally felt by civilians. Both pro and anti government forces have committed violent war crimes. Conditions have become so unbearable that over 500,000 people have fled the country, while some two million others have been displaced within Syria.

But it's not all bad news. Thanks in no small part to your vocal support we have seen some positive steps made towards securing justice for the people of Syria. In January, nearly 60 UN states including the UK added their names to calls for the situation in Syria to be referred to the International Criminal Court – something we have pressed for since April 2011.

Progress might be slow but it is possible. Together we must build on this work and continue to call on both opposition and government forces to prioritise the protection of civilians.

Please fill out the form below to email pro and anti-government representatives, calling for them to respect international humanitarian law and prioritise the protection of civilians. See the messages and full contact details for both sides
