ACTION TYPE LETTER Gao Zhisheng, one of China's most respected human rights lawyers, has suffered enforced disappearence, imprisonment, torture and illegal house arrest because of his work. Appeal for his releaseGao disappeared in February 2009, after police officers took him from his family home, where he was being held under illegal house arrest. For nearly two years his family didn’t know if he was dead or alive.In December 2011, Chinese state media announced that Gao had been jailed. He has been held in Shaya county prison ever since where he is at risk of being tortured.
Update February 2013:Gao Zhisheng has been allowed a visit from his family for the first time in nine months.His wife, Geng He, expressed the family’s gratitude to everyone who has supported Gao. She said this visit ‘could not be achieved without the international community’s concerns and the effort and support from the membership of Amnesty International.’ Read more Write for Rights campaign feedback on our blog
Please post or fax a letter to the Chinese Premier urging him to immediately release Gao.
