CLOSED: Stand up for LGBTI rights in Russia, and support St Petersburg's first Pride
UPDATE 6 July 2012: We are enraged at St Petersburg's late decision to stop Pride. Read full story
This action is now closed, but our campaign for LGBTI rights in Russia continues.
To this date, no LGBTI Pride events have ever been authorised in Russia. People who have tried to hold Pride events without authorisation have been arrested or subjected to violence.
Just last year, LGBTI rights activists requested to hold a Pride celebration in St Petersburg. They were repeatedly and unjustifiably turned down by the city’s authorities, and 14 of the activists were arrested for their part in planning the Pride.
Russia’s persecution of its LGBTI community continues. In May this year, Moscow authorities banned a Pride march due to take place in the city and detained dozens of LGBTI activists as they attempted to hold peaceful gatherings in front of the Moscow City Duma and Mayor’s Office. More information
