Closed:Ramze Shihab Ahmed: petition
Update 7 December 2012: This action is now closed. On the 3rd anniversary of Ramze Shihab Ahmed's arrest, we delivered a petition signed by over 12,000 Amnesty supporters to the Iraqi Embassy, calling for him to receive a fair appeal. 7,000+ were collected online and 5,500 came from a creative action by our youth groups.
You can still take action for Ramze and call for his appeal to meet international standards for fair trials, or for him to be released immediately. Send a letter to the Iraqi authorities now
70-year-old, Ramze Shihab Ahmed is serving a 15 year prison sentence in Iraq after an unfair trial. He was convicted of funding terrorist groups after a hearing that lasted just 15 minutes.
Ramze was arrested in 2009 and held for over a year without charge. For the first four months he was held in a secret prison and claims he was tortured.
Since 2011 Ramze has stood trial nine times and was cleared of the charges against him eight times.
However at his final trial on 20 June 2012 he was found guilty. We have serious concerns about his trial and allegations of torture. Take action now for Ramze
