Shell: Own up, pay up, clean up

More than 14,000 of you signed our petition to Shell boss Peter Voser, asking his company to take responsibility for the destruction it has caused in the Niger Delta, and to act now to repair some of the damage it’s done.  Thank you to everyone who signed the petition and stood up to Shell. We’ll add your names together with thousands more signatures collected by Amnesty sections all over the world, and hand them to Shell’s headquarters in The Hague in early June 2012. Life is hell in the Niger Delta

The millions of people living in the oil-ridden Niger Delta have seen their environment destroyed in recent years, as the Nigerian government and international companies like oil giants Shell fail to take responsibility for oil damage that has wrecked the livelihoods and way of life for the people who live there.

We're calling on Shell Chief Executive Peter Voser to openly commit Shell to taking responsibility for the damage the company has done to the region.

Shell can help to bring life back to the Delta it has helped to destroy, by embarking on a clean-up operation and contributing an initial sum of $1billion into a fund which is managed independently with robust oversight.
Shell and the Nigerian government are running out of time to repair some of the damage they’ve done to residents' livelihoods, standard of living and future prospects in the Niger Delta.
