Bahraini student poet Aayat Al-Qormozi
This action has closed.
20-year-old Bahraini student Aayat Al-Qormozi could be sent to prison at any time because she recited a poem at a pro-reform rally.
Between March and July 2011 she was held in detention during which time she was tortured. Aayat was eventually sentenced to a year in prison before being given a conditional release on 13 July 2011 which prevented her from travelling outside Bahrain or speaking about her.
More than 1,000 of you emailed Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UK, urging the Bahraini authorities to drop any pending charges against Ayat al-Qormozi.
Ayat has asked us to pass on her thanks to all those who took action:
"I would like to thank Amnesty and all its members for all the work they have done on my case.
From the day I was released everyone I bumped into in Bahrain tells me how much work Amnesty had done on my behalf".
